Five Favorite Bullet Journal Youtubers

(This is a non affiliate post and based solely on my personally curated Youtube subscriptions.)

Since 2016, I have been a part of the bullet journal community.

This system has worked so well for me because I’ve been able to integrate my inner Ennegram 6 personality with my creative passions like doodling, word art, and painting. Each month, I plan to continue sharing my bullet journal spreads with you, but I must confess that I rarely approach a new spread without inspiration from one of my favorite bullet journal queens. Today, I want to share with you my FIVE FAVORITE BULLET JOURNAL YOUTUBERS. I recommend subscribing to each of these channels whether you are new to the hobby or well-practiced. It is always a breath of fresh air to watch how others are utilizing their creativity in functional ways.

So here they are…in no particular order:

1. Amanda Rach Lee

I know that I said that these are in no particular order, but I must confess that Amanda Rach Lee is really my favorite. She is one of the first bullet journal artists to inspire me to get creative on the pages of my bullet journal. From her cute doodles, relaxing voice, and positive vibes, I am addicted to her channel. I think I’ve viewed every video on her channel and every time I get a notification that she has a new upload I get so excited. During the pandemic, Amanda’s channel has really helped me to keep my head up and to focus on the things I can control rather than the things that I cannot. Amanda also has an online shop and my newest bullet journal (which I will share with you soon) comes from her recent product launch.

2. Plant Based Bride

Photo Credit: Plant Based Bride website

I’ve only been watching Elizabeth of Plant Based Bride for a few months, but I really enjoy her channel. Not only does Elizabeth create beautifully functional pages, but she also is an avid reader like me. Her channel includes monthly bullet journal setups, art tutorials, life updates, and book reviews. Elizabeth is also a minimalist which has been a passion of mine over the past couple of years. I can’t believe I’ve only found her recently because her channel aligns with so many of my niches.

3. Caitlin’s Corner

Photo Credit: Caitlin da Silva website

I think I am drawn most to Caitlin’s Corner because she is so authentic. Each video just feels like a chat with an old friend. Caitlin likes to use a lot of different mediums in her bullet journal and she inspires me to play around with supplies and layouts. Not only is she a creative journaler, but Caitlin also shares videos about life in general. This helps her followers feel like a friend–because we have glimpsed many different aspects of her life beyond just bullet journaling.

4. Julianne Doodles

Julianne’s channel is unique because she creates stickers for each month’s spread which you can purchase. Her illustrations and doodles are always unique and her personality is very bubbly and easy to relate to. Like all the women above, Julianne is a doodler from Canada (Why are all the greats Canadian? Is there something I don’t know about Canada?)

5. Shayda Campbell

Photo Credit: Shayda Campbell Youtube channel

Shayda’s channel is unique because her content goes beyond bullet journal videos and also includes art tutorials. Her expertise is floral painting but she also provides tutorials in hand lettering, drawing, water colors and many other illustrating techniques. Her voice is very tranquil and her overall vibe is very “chill” and perfect for an atmosphere of creativity.

I am always looking for new inspirations so please drop a comment if you have another favorite that I can add to my subscription list. Also, go show some love to these ladies and subscribe to their channels…you won’t be disappointed!

Deserve: Five Minute Friday

Happy Friday!

Today, I am joining writers from all over the world for a Five Minute Friday link-up. For today’s link-up we are all writing on the common theme: Deserve.

We are still in England today and finally out of our required quarantine!

Since we were locked down on Father’s Day, we decided to treat my husband to a day out today because he deserves more than a day locked indoors to celebrate his paternal skills and dedication.

I took the girls into town early this morning and we purchased my husband a nice Parker pen (the quintessential writing utensil for all posh Englishmen). Next, we caught a train all together to Southampton. While in the city, we treated my husband to a cream tea lunch at a very nice tea room.

Lastly, we walked around West Quay, the city center and shopping area for Southampton. Overall, it was a fun day out as a family celebrating a man who deserves the world for all of the love and sacrifices he makes for us!

July 2021 Bullet Journal

It’s been many months since I made a post showcasing my bullet journal, but I have been keeping it updated during the time I didn’t post. With the July pages filled I have now finished my Volume 1 of 2021. I look forward to sharing my new notebook with you starting next month as well as some new ideas and supplies I’ve acquired while on my annual trip to England.

Cover Page: Popsicle/Lollipop Themes

This month’s theme is inspired by several photos I saw on Pinterest as well as my newest set of Stabilo Highlighters in coral, teal, and purple pastels.

Weekly Spread

This weekly spread is one I have been using for a few months now. It is inspired by The Plant Based Bride’s Rolling Weekly video on YouTube.

Meal Tracker

I am in the middle of PiYo and this page is especially designed with the elements of my meal plan here and plenty of space to track the foods I am eating every day.

Fitness Tracker

This is my fitness tracker–it’s simple and functional.

My supplies for this month’s spread were:

Stabilo Highlighters in pastel colors and Tombow Fudenosuke in black as well as a black Paper Mate Flair pen.

Let me know what you think of these simple, summery pages.

PiYo Week 3 Recap

(This is a non affiliate post and based solely on my personal experience using the Beachbody PiYo program developed by Chalene Johnson. Results may vary.)

Just shy of the middle of the program, I am starting to get addicted to the feeling of satisfaction that comes from finishing each workout. Each day I work harder than the one before, but I am seeing results in my energy level, strength, balance, and weight loss.

This all goes to show that all it takes is 20-30 minutes a day to make a difference when you are consistent. About this time I usually begin to fall off of most workout or diet plans, but I’m feeling the benefits and hoping to stick it out to the end of the 8 week program.

One thing that has been a little harder now that we have been released from quarantine is maintaining the PiYo diet. I do my best, but not being in my own house (or country) keeps me from being fully in charge of the menu. However, I have tried my best to make wise decisions when options are available.

Some observations from Week 3:

– There really are no “easy days” anymore. Each workout now is pretty intense.

– Every day there is a different muscle group focus and my favorite are the days when I work on my core.

– I found my first Strength Intervals workout to be really difficult. My legs shook the entire time because they are not used to being so engaged and exhausted.

-My cravings for sweets are really letting up and I am drinking more water.

You can check out the earlier weeks of my PiYo recaps here:

Week 1

Week 2

I look forward to continue to share my progress with you. I am proud of what I have accomplished thus far. Let me know if you have ever done PiYo or any other Beachbody classes. I am interested in hearing others’ testimonies for how these programs improved your fitness level and growth mentality.

Quiet: Five Minute Friday

I am dropping in for a quick Five Minute Friday post with my positive, uplifting community of Christian writers. Each week we participate in a linkup where we spend five minutes writing in response to a common prompt. This week our prompt is: Quiet.

One of the best things to come out of our Covid “stay at home order” experience as a family is the daily Quiet Time that we implemented. After being sequestered inside for so many days together, we easily could’ve unraveled. Without individual space and peace we so easily found ourselves at odds with one another. Between the Zoom calls with students, cooking every single meal at home, and trying to wrangle a toddler in the midst of all this we found ourselves worn out and desiring a little time away from each other. And I know we weren’t the only ones. All across the world, family bonds were being tested and routines that had long kept things running smoothly were destroyed.

But, a week into the forced quarantine, my family began to observe daily Quiet Time.

For two hours every day each of us gets a chance to be alone. We can nap, watch a movie, write, exercise, or work on a personal project. This became a daily staple to our family that has carried on long past the days of being forced indoors. It became a healthy time for each of us to develop hobbies and interests as well as catch up on sleep that may be necessary.

In the beginning, I used the time for working on grad school work, but have since decided that time needs to be used as creative time for myself. Now, I like to use that time to blog or work on my bullet journal. Occassionally, I will read, but while in grad school I haven’t had a lot of desire to read for pleasure–however, I know that will come back once I finish my courses.

So, here I am in the UK–visiting family, but observing my daily Quiet Time. The windows are open, the birds are lively and awake. In the next room I hear the snores of my youngest daughter and down the hall the movements of my little gymnast working on stunts. I’m sitting on a bed littered with stationery that I acquired on the trip and I’m in my element with words, blogging, and warm cup of coffee on the table beside me.

I know it is such a basic thing, but Quiet Time has really given my family a chance to be a unit while also being individuals. It has provided relaxation and refreshing during a time in our world where those terms are hard to come by. Some days I survive on these quiet moments and I gather my wits and strength because I have two hours of self care daily.

PiYo Week 2 Recap

(This is a non affiliate post and based solely on my personal experience using the Beachbody PiYo program developed by Chalene Johnson. Results may vary.)

As I increased the rigor of my workouts this week I was met by the challenge of simultaneously experiencing jetlag from travel to England. For the first 8 days of the trip I am required to quarantine at my in law’s home. As far as finding time to work out, I am without excuse. I am pleased to say that the only day I did not work out during this second week was the day of my flight–which would’ve been quite impossible really. I did, however, complete some of my standard flight exercises to keep the blood flowing and logged over 10,000 airport steps navigating three different airports.

In my Week 1 post, I give more details about PiYo and the meal plans that accomodate the daily exercises. This time, I want to share with you the workout calendar for the entire 8 week program.

Major observations of this second week of PiYo:

-Sweat workouts were appropriately named as completing those high intensity regimens made me sweat more profusely than any workout I’ve done in a long time.

-The day after my flight I found it difficult to balance my body and so I struggled most on that day.

– I am doing my best to fit my workouts in every day while in England, but it has been challenging due to being in quarantine with all of my in-laws in the house and kiddos who need a lot of entertaining.

– It is also more challenging to eat according to a meal plan while away from your own kitchen and familiar foods.

-The 20-45 minute workouts each day have improved my attitude and outlook each day.

Now that I am nearly out of quarantine and settling into a routine in England I hope it will be easier to work out each day for the remainder of the trip. I don’t recommend starting a new program prior to a month abroad, but I’m determined to show that it isn’t impossible to stick with it when your health is such a high priority!

Quarantine in UK

After two years, we have finally been able to journey back to England. For the next five days we will be quarantining with my in-laws. The journey was long, but both girls did a great job en route. Meeting my nephew for the first time was a much anticipated event, but luckily he is getting on well with my girls and seems to have bonded quickly with my husband and I.

While we are in quarantine in the UK we have to…

-Self-test on day 2 and day 5 after arrival and send our tests in the post

-Receive a phone call daily from the UK Track and Trace Dept

-Stay at the residence we registered for on our Track and Trace forms.

If our day 5 test is negative we will be able to break the quarantine and move about the country freely. Until then, I will be sharing lots of photos of the family in the back garden and around the house enjoying the reunion and extra time together.

PiYo Week 1 Recap

(This is a non affiliate post and based solely on my personal experience using the Beachbody PiYo program developed by Chalene Johnson. Results may vary.)

As a gift for my birthday, my husband ordered me the DVD set of PiYo, a full body workout combining Pilates and yoga. I first heard about PiYo from an acquaintance who leads group exercise sessions. But it wasn’t until I was sitting at the beach over Spring break (unhappy with the way I looked in a swimsuit) that I really started looking into the program.

I was a runner in high school so my joints have taken a beating over the years. My draw to PiYo was its low impact, but high intensity as well as its following of people boasting in the results of the program. But PiYo is so much more than a daily body weight workout, it is also a diet consciousness program as well.

My DVD set came with a book that outlined a diet for my body goals and target calories.

One week into my PiYo plan I have already noticed:

-I am more flexible and able to complete the workout than when I began

-My cravings for sweet/junk foods has severely diminished

-Tracking my meals has made me more aware of the foods I am having too much or too little of

-My abs are getting stronger and more toned

-Each morning I wake up a little sore from the day before, but it isn’t too intense

Each week I plan to log a few details regarding my plan and how my particular results are progressing. I want to have a place to share the hard work I am putting in and I hope to celebrate the milestones along the journey. For me, the biggest goals I have set for myself are not numbers, but a healthier lifestyle. I’m a busy, working mom and my eating-on-the-go was getting out of hand. Through PiYo, I hope to develop meal planning habits that focus on nutritious choices and I also want to give my body the exercise it needs without the joint pain that often comes with strength workouts.

The coming weeks will prove challenging as I leave for a month in the UK tomorrow. Being outside of my own kitchen and surrounded by local foods to the UK will definitely cause a shift in my habits, but hopefully not in my progress. I am taking my PiYo DVDs and have ordered a multi-region player to arrive at my in-laws’ where I will be staying so that I won’t miss a beat. I’ll be starting my second week of PiYo with an early session before the flight and although airport food is less than ideal I feel that the program has equipped me to make the best choices possible no matter my environment.

If you have ever done PiYo or a similar program please let me know!

Disagree: Five Minute Friday

I’m joining writers all over the globe in a weekly link-up where we focus on a common prompt and share our stories with one another. While crafting each post, writers must stick to five minutes ONLY and writers may not edit/revise their original writing. Five Minute Friday is such an encouraging community of writers and together we are launching positive, authentic content into the world. This week our prompt is: Disagree.

A glass of wine. A good friend. And two helpings of good intention.

That is the recipe to a healthy dialogue between two people with contrasting views. Although, you could always substitute the wine for your beverage of choice (iced tea, coffee, water, beer). Whatever your environment might be it is imperative that each of us have settings and people in our lives that we can run to for challenging ourselves–people we can disagree with, yet still respect enough to call them ‘friend.’

We are living in a divisive time. The powers that be are telling us there are ONLY two sides. You are either ‘x’ or you are ‘y’. Is there no room for space between these letters? Labels are not written in cursive and the space between ‘x’ and ‘y’ albeit minute, is the space where we grow and learn and lean into each other.

Between ‘x’ and ‘y’ is where most truth lies.

If we come to a disagreement holding tight to our stance or beliefs and unwilling to hear from others and consider their perspective we really are not participating in a dialogue. We turn a deaf ear to their thoughts and we discredit their words before we even get a chance to process.

I want to challenge you today.

I’ve been going through a deconstruction of sorts with my faith. It isn’t a faith crisis and I’m not losing my faith in God. On the contrary, this deconstruction is leading me to challenge my own beliefs and to plant my roots deeper in faith. I’m challenging things I’ve been told and weighing them against what the Bible and more specifically Jesus says about these things. And as I’ve continued in this journey, I’ve come against disagreement. Some of those disagreements have been healthy like what I described above while others have been futile as a result of both parties.

All this to say–it is okay if we challenge each other. It’s benefical when we ask those hard questions to the people we are closest to. And it is important than when we disagree that we hear one another out and continue to dialogue in a way that is both respectful and uplifting and leaves both parties feeling heard.
