Snow is falling as Jordan visits her shut-in Mamaw. Jordan shows up preoccupied with life and worried about clearing the snow away. However, as she sips on coffee and talks to Mamaw she is reminded of the memories the snow holds and how when we remember the people and things of the past we enter into something like heaven on earth.

This is a project that I enjoy putting time into each month and I am always looking for clients to help create portfolios of their own.
Most of my income comes from providing writing and editing services. Over the summer I worked with half a dozen clients to spruce up their resumes. I have done a couple of thesis paper edits as well. My favorite types of projects include longer pieces. My skills as a reader and writer are most challenged and I feel the most reward after working with a client for several weeks on a piece that has a deep meaning to them.
I am currently working on my first Quarterly Book Club Discussion Guide release. After many conversations with clients and friends, I have decided to offer resources to members of the reading community. There will be alternations between Bestsellers and YA titles in the lineup and I plan to release one discussion guide per quarter. In the meantime, you can download your own FREE copy of the Guide to Hosting a Book Club.
My October calendar is pretty open, and I am hoping to connect with both new and returning clients. If you have a resume, letter, presentation, lesson, essay, or manuscript that you would like to work with me on I am open for new projects. Complete the survey below and I will get back to you on the details and prices for working with The Ameri Brit Mom.
Thank you so much for stopping by to see what all I’ve been up to. The fall is always a busy time, but the work of The Ameri Brit Mom is still ongoing and giving purpose and confidence to the writer within all of us.
Encounters with big time celebrities don’t happen in the small, British town of Belford, so when V finds herself making tea at the local cafe for an A-lister she is caught off guard. She was used to the painstaking customers from the pensioners court down the road-not gorgeous men from London.
In this short story, you can experience the essence of a quaint British bakery based on my own experiences this summer.
“The Closing Shift” is the latest installment in my short story collection. For access to exclusive content including this 8 page story, you can join my Patreon page.
Each month, members of my Patreon receive critiques, calendar pages, newsletters, and a short story. You can become a patron for only $5/month. When you join, you not only receive exclusive content, but you help me to grow and launch this brand and business into the world.
This is the first chapter of the novel I am currently working on. It’s a YA piece about a young girl who sets out along the Appalachain Trail in search of a missing person…and her purpose. All of her friends are headed to college soon, but Raven is staying behind to help run her parents’ Bed and Breakfast. This is a story about finding your true calling, coping with change, and finding the courage to succeed. I started working on this piece as part of my final portfolio in grad school. Only my graduate advisor and critique partner have seen this chapter and the others for this story. You can gain exclusive access to this 12 page chapter when you join my Patreon page.
Each month I publish a short story on my Patreon page for those readers who pledge $5 a month or more. If you would like to read this first chapter please consider joining my Patreon page.
In December of 2020, I embarked on a journey to curate a capsule wardrobe for myself. Inspired by Courtney Carver’s Project 333, I decided to clear out my closet and take a more ethical approach to clothing choices.
I’ve learned a few things and tailored the Project 333 approach to fit my needs and lifestyle. Below is The Ameri Brit Mom’s best tips for creating your own Capsule Wardrobe and a special template.
Tips to Start a Capsule Wardrobe
Begin by defining how long your capsule wardrobe will serve you. I live in the midwest and the weather cycles match the changing seasons. With that in mind, I kept the suggested timeline of 3 months for a capsule.
Set aside “out of season” clothing in a storage bin or tote out of sight. You will be less likely to go searching for a piece if it is out of the way.
Recycle or donate clothing that does not make the cut. If a piece makes it through a whole year without being in the capsule, it’s time to part ways.
Figure out a number of pieces that meets your needs. Consider events, holidays, or professional needs when setting those numbers. Project 333 would encourage 33 pieces, but I found that some seasons I needed more and others I needed less.
Try to stick to a neutral color scheme so that most pieces can be worn in combination together. It’s okay to have a few pieces with bright colors or prints, but the majority of the capsule should be on the neutral spectrum.
Benefits of a Capsule Wardrobe
Each day I spend far less time than I used to trying to “put an outfit together.” I can spend more time doing other things I enjoy rather than pondering over what to wear.
My eco-footprint is reduced because I own less and it takes less to power and energy to maintain the pieces in my wardrobe.
The choices I make in purchasing are based on comfort and durability and not on trends. This saves a lot of time and money!
Every day I am wearing one of my favorite pieces! I only keep those pieces that I absolutely LOVE. It’s not worth the time and space to hang on to pieces with sentimental value or that make me feel bad about my body shape or size. I love every piece and they each make me feel fantastic about ME.
Capsule Wardrobe Template
Are you interested in creating a capsule wardrobe for yourself?
I’ve taken everything I’ve learned since 2020 and made a template to help you get started on a capsule wardrobe journey.
You can download this template when you join my Patreon. I can also customize your template to meet your needs (FREE TO PATRONS!) In addition to gaining this template and others like it, you will be joining a community of supportive readers.
Patreon is helping The Ameri Brit Mom launch as a small business and is cultivating a direct relationship between myself as a creator and my community. Additionally, I offer writing and editing services monthly and a short story is published once a month that is exclusive to this group.
Whether you choose to join the Patreon or not, I hope that my tips have helped you to consider your own wardrobe. Are you happy with the amount you own? Do you love every piece? Is there a piece or two that you can get rid of today because it no longer serves your needs? That’s what capsule wardrobes are all about–conscious choices that simplify closet spaces.
Inspired by my recent trip to Washington DC, I wrote a piece on the evolution of a political figure. This 500 word essay explores the journey of well-intentioned politicians and the compromises that must be made in order to be successful in corrupt systems.
In order to view this short essay, you must be a member of my Patreon site. Each month, I create exclusive content and offer special editing services for members. For $5, $10, or $20 a month, you can support The Ameri Brit Mom and receive benefits as a True Fan of my writing and business. To join, click below:
This month, I wanted to give a glimpse into what you can expect to see as a member of this Patreon page in the future. Some of my works will be fictional, however, this is a piece I’ve written that is based on my experience with a very special student. She and her parents have given permission for this to be shared. I hope this piece touches your heart the same way that MaKenzie touches mine.
Starting in May, only Patrons will be able to view and access the monthly short story. These will be original pieces written and edited by Lauren Sisley of The Ameri Brit Mom. If you want to see more, exclusive works and want to support the launch and construction of this new business please consider pledging to my Patreon page.
It’s an easy transaction–you set the price and I create the content.
If you join my Patreon site during the month of February, you will earn Valentine’s Day cards. Both of the beautiful designs give you space for your written voice to express love for those in your life who mean the most. I am so in love with the way these turned out and I hope you adore them as well.
